This week long course aims to give you the most comprehensive introduction to Bushcraft - perfect for both the beginner starting out on their bushcraft journey or for anyone who wants to further their wilderness skills and deep dive into this fascinating subject.  

 

This course covers the all important survival skill basics such as tool use, fire lighting and shelter building through to more advanced wilderness living techniques including wilderness cookery, identifying edible and medicinal plants and animal tracking.  

 

            

How Is This Wilderness Skills Course Different?

The experience, however, offers so much more than the detailed lessons themselves.  As our flagship bushcraft course, this immersive outdoors experience aims to foster your confidence in the outdoors to enable you to have your own outdoor adventures.  

By the end of this course, you will be a well-rounded, competent outdoors person confident in the knowledge that 'the more you know, the less you carry'.

What You Will Learn On This Bushcraft Course:

  • Cutting tools - Knife safety and knife techniques

  • Wood carving and whittling projects

  • Everything you need to know about knife sharpening

  • Building shelters for survival and wilderness living

  • Water - location, collection, disinfection and environmental considerations

  • Fire - ignition, management, fire lays and firewood considerations

  • Fire by Friction masterclass - Bow-drill method 

  • Animal tracking - tracks and signs and trailing

  • Wild food - traps and snaring 

  • Cooking on fires - broiling, baking breads, cooking in embers

  • Fishing for food

  • Natural Navigation

  • Cordage - making natural string and bindings

  • Plantlore - Plant and tree ID, wild edibles and medicinal plants

  • Rucksack shakedown - what to carry

2 - 7 June Course

This course is run from the majestic Bonskeid Estate near Pitlochry.  A mature mixed woodland site on the banks of the River Tummel, this woodland is secluded and has great camping spots.  Ancient hazel copse mixed with old oaks, birches and whopping douglas firs make this site a great place to immerse yourself in nature.  The wood is full of wildlife and we are truly privileged to be able to run our courses from this special site.

This site is close to Pitlochry, right off the A9, and so is very accessible. We offer a complimentary train pick up service from Pitlochry rail station for up to 4 clients per course on a first come-first serve basis. There is ample private parking on site for those travelling by car.  

 

21 - 26 July Course 

This course is run from a spectacular ancient oak wood nestled by the banks of the River Tay close to Aberfeldy in Highland Perthshire, Scotland.  The site is quiet and secluded with opportunities to swim in the river.  The wood is full of wildlife and we are truly privileged to be able to run our courses from this special site.

This site is easily accessible from the A9 and we are only 1.5hrs from both Edinburgh and Glasgow.  We are well served by train too, with a station at Dunkeld.  We offer a complimentary train pick up service from Dunkeld station for up to 4 clients per course on a first come-first serve basis. There is also a bus service from Dunkeld train station which stops right at the meeting point in Grandtully village.
